Dear Secretary Mnuchin and Commissioner Rettig:

I write to request the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to expeditiously release the Economic Impact Payments (EIP) to all eligible recipients, and to ensure responsiveness to EIP inquiries made by constituents and congressional offices.

It is of utmost importance that the IRS address any and all issues concerning EIP so that the American people would not be subjected to any further delays in receiving the much-needed financial relief during this COVID-19 public health emergency.

Additionally, for weeks, the IRS has been unresponsive and inaccessible to both constituent and congressional inquiries regarding EIP issues. The recently established EIP hotline underscores the agency's ineffectiveness and inability to promptly answer calls to address the needs of the American people who have yet received their EIP. My staff and constituents have called into this hotline, but were met with disappointment. While the IRS's recent announcement of hiring 3,500 phone operators to answer EIP inquiries is welcomed news, the overwhelmingly difficulty for my staff and constituents to reach a live phone operator continues to persist. This has only exacerbated the urgency and frustration of the pandemic. I urge you to address the serious concerns regarding the inadequate operations of the EIP hotline.

New Yorkers and Americans across the nation are still struggling and remain in desperate need to access funds during this COVID-19 public health emergency. As such, I urge your swift resolution of this issue.
