Congressman Anthony G. Brown released the following statement in response to reporting on continued COVID-19 health disparities in Prince George's County, one of the wealthiest majority-minority jurisdictions in the country, as well as unrest over the killing of George Floyd. Congressman Brown continues to call for targeted solutions:
"Race neutral solutions will not solve the longstanding disparities in our society - in health care, in justice or in economic opportunity. Recent months have underscored just how vulnerable communities of color are as we've faced a global pandemic, rising unemployment and publicly captured instances of violence. Black Americans are more likely to die from the coronavirus, more likely to be unemployed at this time and more likely to be killed by the police."
"Addressing these issues is long overdue. We need targeted solutions aimed at getting resources to communities of color, promoting equitable justice and empowering people of color with the tools they need to succeed. Black and Brown Americans are hurting. Our country is hurting. It's time for action."
