FYSA: Lack of Clarity on State Tests, A Question of Public Health and Honesty

Congressman Anthony G. Brown released the following statement after reporting from Maryland Matters on Hogan Administration officials admitting to "struggles" with getting the states testing capacity up in hotspot areas and closures of Prince George's testing sites:

"For weeks, myself and local leaders have called on Governor Hogan to provide transparency on the overpriced tests procured from South Korea and what more supplies are needed to ramp up testing capacity. The Hogan Administration has stonewalled at every turn. These tests were highly touted as a means for Maryland to increase our state's testing capacity, but have been incomplete and delayed in their deployment. To date, Maryland has yet to reach the 10,000 daily testing target set by the Hogan Administration."

"Now, as the state pushes toward reopening, Administration officials say, "It's not enough testing. Every day it's a struggle to bring on more tests and to bring them out to the communities that need them.' A stark reversal of what the Administration has been saying for weeks, and little comfort to communities still desperately waiting for more testing."

"This is a question of public health and honesty. After receiving more than $205 million for community testing in Maryland, Governor Hogan needs to be upfront with the public and provide a real plan to expand testing."
