Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart Votes to Extend Tax Relief for Hard-Working American Families
WASHINGTONCongressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) today voted for H.R. 4297, the Tax Relief Extension Reconciliation Act of 2005.
"Our nation's economy continues to grow at an impressive rate," Diaz-Balart said, "so it only makes sense that Congress should continue to pass the pro-growth policies that are making the economic engine run. By extending these tax relief measures, we are ensuring that all Americans are able to keep more of their hard-earned money in time for the holiday season."
The key provisions in this legislation include extending the reduced tax rates on capital gains and dividend income through 2010. According to the Joint Committee on Taxation, over 60 percent of Americans receiving capital gains or dividend income have incomes of $100,000 or less and stand to benefit from the passage of today's bill. Also, the bill includes an extension for citizens of states like Florida who do not have a state income tax to instead deduct their state sales tax.
