Letter to Donald Trump, President of the United States - Postal Service needs to be more competitive

Dear President Trump:

Thank you for your leadership in addressing the coronavirus pandemic, as well as your calls on
the United States Postal Service (USPS) to modernize its operations. In addition to the public
health issues this disease has raised, it has also brought to light fissures in the efficiency and
solvency of this agency. While USPS performs the essential function of delivering information
and goods across the nation-- especially during times like these where businesses are surviving
by shipping directly to customers-- the deficit at which it operates indicates that we must
increase its ability to compete in the market.

For years, Congress has delayed the task of implementing comprehensive postal reform.
We must, however, continue to push for this agency to adopt common-sense, business-minded
principles to meet the rapidly changing needs of the American public. Your business background
sets you apart from previous administrations, and uniquely equips you to lead the effort to make
the USPS more efficient and competitive.

Know that I am ready to work with the White House to accomplish this task. Together, I
believe we can enable the USPS to better serve the American people. I appreciate your
consideration of this request, and I hope you and your family will continue to stay
healthy throughout this difficult time
