Johnson Statement on LA Economic Reopening Announcement

U.S. Representative Mike Johnson (LA-04), a member of President Trump's Task Force for Reopening America, today released the following statement in response to Governor Edwards' announcement that Louisiana will begin Phase 1 of reopening the state's economy on Friday, May 15:

"Governor Edwards has finally announced today his intention to begin Phase 1 of reopening society in Louisiana. While public health must remain the chief concern, it is urgent that the state give small businesses, churches and non-profits a fighting chance at survival."

Background

On May 8, Johnson joined President Trump at the White House for a discussion on returning the nation to greatness amid ongoing efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19. During the meeting Johnson discussed the need for Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards to implement a region-by-region plan to expedite the reopening of the state's economy.
