Pelosi Statement on Death of Senator William Proxmire

Washington, D.C. - House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the death of Senator William Proxmire of Wisconsin:

"Today I join the people of Wisconsin in mourning their Senator of more than 30 years, William Proxmire. He was a stalwart fighter against government waste and for good stewardship of the taxpayer dollar. He was also one of our most powerful voices against the horrific crime of genocide, giving more than 3,000 daily speeches on the need to ratify The Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. Because of his fierce commitment, America did.

"It is with great sadness and respect that I extend deepest condolences to Senator Proxmire's entire family, especially his wife Ellen, his children and grandchildren. I hope it is a comfort to those who love him that so many people share their loss and are praying for them at this sad time."
