Lujan Statement Calling for Urgent Action Following Record High Unemployment

U.S. House Assistant Speaker Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement on the record high 14.7 percent unemployment rate and 20.5 million jobs lost in April:

"Our nation is currently experiencing the highest rate of unemployment since the Great Depression. This urgent crisis requires bold action from the federal government to support working families and small businesses through this crisis and set us on a path toward economic recovery. House Democrats are working diligently on a CARES 2.0 package, which will include strong support for local, state, and Tribal governments.

"President Trump and Mitch McConnell should join us in this effort to provide additional relief for New Mexico and the nation, rather than delay or oppose this much needed action."
