Bipartisan Group of Lawmakers Urge IRS to Extend Filing Deadline for Families to Receive Full Stimulus Payments

Yesterday, U.S. Representatives Mike Kelly (R-Pa.), Emmanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) and a bipartisan coalition of Representatives wrote IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig urging him to take immediate action to ensure that Americans who don't regularly file taxes, but have dependent children under the age of 17, have additional time to submit that information to receive a full economic stimulus payment.

"According to recent reporting, approximately one million children may be deprived of the $500 payment that was intended to assist families in the CARES Act if they fail to complete an online form by noon yesterday, April 22, 2020," wrote the Representatives.
"[We] urge IRS to extend these deadlines to support these families in these perilous times as our country works to slow the spread of this deadly virus."
