Rep. Williams Slams Democrats for Holding Up Critical Aid to Small Businesses

Statement

Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX-25) today called on Congress to swiftly replenish funding for the Small Business Administration's (SBA) Paycheck Protection Program.

"The Paycheck Protection Program has provided critical aid to almost 90,000 Texas small businesses and saved thousands of jobs. To think that Democrats balked at approving additional funding for the program because of their political wish list is inexcusable. While Speaker Pelosi and Leader Schumer continue to hold up aid for millions of Americans, I will continue partnering with our 25th District business owners to provide them with any assistance possible. Main Street America is one of our nation's greatest assets, and right now they are in the fight of their lives -- there is no time to waste on games coming out of Washington, D.C."

Background:

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, supported by Congressman Williams and signed into law by President Trump, created the $350 billion Paycheck Protection Program to provide small businesses with 100% federally backed loans through their lenders.
