Rubio on Ambassador Trujillo's Nomination to be Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere

US Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued the following statement after President Donald Trump nominated US Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS) Carlos Trujillo to serve as the next Assistant Secretary for the Western Hemisphere, as well as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Inter-American Foundation:

"Few individuals understand the ongoing complexities and threats our region is currently facing like Ambassador Trujillo," Rubio said . "Ambassador Trujillo dutifully represents America's interests at the OAS and advocates for human rights, democracy, and regional stability. I have worked closely with Ambassador Trujillo for many years and have no doubt he will faithfully continue to represent the United States as Assistant Secretary of State for the Western Hemisphere. I look forward to his nomination hearing and continuing the important work ahead on behalf of the American people. "

Rubio is the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women's Issues.
