Press Release

Date: April 13, 2020
Location: Lakeland, FL

Today, U.S. Representatives Ross Spano (R-FL) and Rep. French Hill (R-AK) participated in a video conference call with FL-15 financial services stakeholders to discuss the important role local and regional lenders, will have on small businesses overcoming COVID-19 closures. Rep. Spano serves on the House Small Business Committee, the sole Florida representative on that committee, and Rep. Hill serves on the House Committee on Financial Services.

"Congressman Hill and I are focused on helping small businesses in their time of need-- and both of our committees are uniquely positioned to do so. We are helping Main Street navigate the loan process with their financial institutions as their success not only impacts our local economy, but also the financial future of our nation," said Spano. "As a small business owner, I know the struggles many face in good times, much less in a pandemic. I am working with the Trump Administration to make sure we have pro-business, pro-growth regulations, that will ensure America will come out on top."

Rep. Hill serves as the ranking member of the National Security, International Development and Monetary Policy subcommittee. This subcommittee has a wide range of legislative and oversight responsibilities related to the laws and institutions that affect the growth and stability of the U.S. economy, the international financial system and our national security.

"Congress established the Paycheck Protection Program to support our small businesses and keep them alive during this difficult period. As a former community banker in Arkansas, I know how vital it is that our main street businesses take advantage of these SBA programs so they can continue to pay their employees and keep their local economies afloat. I appreciate Congressman Spano's leadership in organizing today's call." Said Rep. Hill

The two Members discussed the "Paycheck Protection Program', SBA 7 (a) Loans, and technical challenges facing lenders with the "E-Tran System'. They also discussed details and process of loan forgiveness, qualifications and overall implementation details of these new federal programs.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Rep. Spano has been working diligently with small business owners and local financial institutions across FL-15 to ensure residents and businesses are aware of federal aid available through the Small Business Administration & U.S. Department of the Treasury. Made available was an "In-Depth Small Business Guide' and a "Non-Profit Guide' for interested parties.
