Lujan Statement on Reports that Direct Payment May Take Months to Reach Americans

U.S. House Assistant Speaker Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement on reports from the IRS that some Americans may not receive their relief payments for up to five months:

"New Mexicans need immediate economic relief - and cannot afford to wait five months for the Trump administration to provide the critical direct relief payments championed and passed into law by House Democrats.

"Working individuals and families are most vulnerable to the economic impacts of COVID-19, and these individuals need this economic support to help ensure food is kept on the table, rent and mortgage payments are made, and the lights stay on.

"We cannot let these families suffer. The Trump administration must take steps to address these delays immediately, so New Mexican families can receive the economic relief they deserve."
