Congresswoman Garcia's Provision to Help Minority-Owned Businesses Included in House Democrats' Coronavirus Stimulus Package

Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) filed legislation that would provide minority-owned businesses $3 billion in grants through the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA). It was included as a provision in The Take Responsibility for Workers and Families Act, H.R. 6379, the coronavirus economic stimulus package unveilved earlier today by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. This provision would support the MBDA in fully implementing the Initative to Build Growth Equty Funds for minority-owned businesses. Immediate funding of the initiative will allow the grant recipients to respond quickly to the capital needs of minority businesses that have been exacerabated by the coronavirus health crisis.

"I am proud that my bill was included as a provision in the House Democrats' bold coronavirus economic stimulus package," said Congresswoman Garcia. "The Minority Buisness Development Agency plays a critical role in helping minority-owened businesses to create good paying jobs, scale up and build capacity, and increase their revenues by giving them access to the capital, markets, and contracts they need to thrive. As hard working families and small to medium sized businesses struggle to survive during this pandemic, we must make sure minority communities and minority-owned businesses can also benefit from our economic recovery efforts in Congress," concluded Congresswoman Garcia.
