Rep. Cleaver's Housing Relief Bill Included In House Coronavirus Stimulus Proposal

Yesterday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced H.R. 6379, the Take Responsibility for Workers and Families Act, to provide monumental relief to the American people and businesses facing economic hardship during the coronavirus pandemic. H.R. 6326, the COVID-19 Emergency Housing Relief Act of 2020, a bill introduced by United States Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO), was included in the Speaker's stimulus package.

"During times of economic crisis, it's the most vulnerable among us who bear the brunt of the burden we uphold as a nation," said Congressman Cleaver. "Any stimulus package passed by Congress must be focused on the hardworking Americans who will see the immediate consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, which is why I'm encouraged to see my bill included in the House version. No American facing financial hardship due to a global pandemic should be kicked out on the street, and I'll keep fighting to make sure that doesn't happen."

The COVID-19 Emergency Housing Relief Act of 2020 would:

Waive all work requirements and time limitations associated with housing assistance during the COVID-19 emergency period.

Provide emergency flexibility on section 8 and rural housing vouchers during the COVID-19 emergency period.

Suspend public housing income reviews and provide HUD the authority to suspend deadlines.
As negotiations between the House and Senate continue, Congressman Cleaver will push for his legislation to be included in the final stimulus package.
