Congressman Anthony Brown: "We Must Protect the Health of Our Neighbors and Our Vulnerable Communities"

Press Release

Date: March 5, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Anthony G. Brown, Vice Chair of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement regarding the first confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Maryland:

"I am confident in our ability as a state to take action in order to protect the health of our neighbors and vulnerable communities. Working with Governor Hogan, state and local officials, my office and I will continue to monitor this situation to ensure our public health officials have the resources they need to detect, contain and treat this virus. Reports that the individuals who contracted the virus overseas remain in good condition is encouraging news.

The public should remain vigilant regarding symptoms like respiratory distress, particularly if you have traveled abroad or have come in contact with someone who has traveled abroad, and consult with a medical professional if needed. By listening to the advice of health care workers and taking preventative measures, we can all work to avoid potential transmission and further spread. While this situation is evolving, it is manageable if we prepare, take necessary precautions and avoid unnecessary panic."
