Rep. Kaptur Bill to Rename Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation Passes Committee

Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), released the following statement after the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure voted to pass out of committee her legislation to rename the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation as the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation. The purpose of the legislation is to celebrate the Seaway's central role in promoting commerce, economic development, and national security not only in the Great Lakes region but across the entire United States.

"Thank you to the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee Chairman DeFazio, Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee Chairwoman Grace Napolitano, and Members on both sides of the aisle who supported my legislations to rename the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development corporation," said Rep. Kaptur. "The new name, the Great Lakes Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation, will appropriately reflect the Seaway's enormous role for connecting commerce, promoting economic development, and protecting national security across the nation. I urge my colleagues for their bipartisan support as the legislation goes to the House floor."
