U.S. Rep. Linda T. Sánchez (CA-38) released the statement below following President Donald J. Trump's State of the Union address:
"In what I hope was his final State of the Union address, the President proved again that he puts "Trump First' before Americans or our national security. His speech looked more like a TV game show than a presidential address -- giving out prizes while turning his back on reality.
"The fact is that working families aren't doing better. Wages have not gone up, job growth has stalled, and Trump's tax law has helped billionaires and big corporations instead of working Americans. Tens of millions of Americans are closer than ever to losing health care coverage or being denied care because of pre-existing conditions. The Trump Administration has made it difficult, not easier, for patients to access quality health care.
"I'm disheartened that the President chose to fill this night with blatant lies and demeaning rhetoric about immigrants. As the impeachment trial draws to a close and the presidential primary process begins, Trump has failed Americans in so many ways. It's time for an agenda that puts the American people first by lowering health care costs, raising workers' wages, acting on climate change, and coming back to our shared democratic values."
