It is Long Past Time for DC Statehood

700,000 DC residents have no vote in Congress. They pay the most in federal taxes per capita and their residents serve in every military branch.

30,000 veterans live in Washington, DC and have fought for their country. Yet, when they return home, they have no vote in the government they just fought to defend.

Fact Check: No other democracy in the world deprives its citizens of equal rights just because they live in the nation's capital.

DC's population is larger than Wyoming and Vermont, and has met all the constitutional requirements for statehood. The 700,000 residents living in DC deserve equality.

This nation was founded on the rallying cry "No Taxation Without Representation." For 219 years, DC residents have gone without a voice in their own government, despite paying federal taxes.

The federal government collects more in taxes from DC than it does from 22 states. DC can support itself.
