Deutch Bill Supporting Iranian People's Right to Protest Regime Passes Foreign Affairs Committee

Statement

This morning, the House Foreign Affairs Committee unanimously approved Chairman Ted Deutch's (FL-22) resolution supporting the people of Iran's peaceful and legitimate protests against the oppressive and corrupt regime in Tehran.

This resolution was jointly introduced with Ranking Member Joe Wilson (SC-02).

"Congress has long expressed bipartisan support for the human rights of the Iranian people, including the rights to peaceably assemble and protest," Congressman Deutch said. "In the face of popular protests across the country against the regime, Iranian authorities shut down the Internet and security forces used lethal force to kill hundreds of people and arrest at least 7,000. This resolution condemns the Iranian regime's serious human rights abuses and reaffirms our support for the Iranian people and their right to live in a free society."
