McCollum Delivers on Deal to Relocate St. Paul Post Office

After four years of working with Congresswoman McCollum and Ramsey County officials, the United States Postal Service (USPS) informed McCollum this week that it plans to relocate the St. Paul Processing and Distribution Facility to Eagan. "This announcement is a tremendous victory for St. Paul and the future of transit in the East Metro area," said McCollum. The plan will free up 12 acres of downtown riverfront property for a multi-modal transit hub and future development, and allow for a state-of-the-art postal facility to be constructed an Eagan. GAO Report Details Mismanagement of National Park Permits

On Monday, the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office (GAO) issued a report detailing mismanagement of permit fee collection by the National Park Service (NPS), which has resulted in significant lost revenue to national parks. McCollum and her Democratic colleagues requested this report after the National Football League was allowed to use the
National Mall for an unprecedented advertising event in 2003. "As taxpayers, we deserve accountability for our tax dollars, and we deserve to have our national treasures protected for future generations," said McCollum. McCollum Leads Call to Bush and Blair to Strengthen African Development

Earlier this week, as part of a conference of parliamentarians addressing development goals in advance of the G8 summit in Edinburgh, Scotland, Congresswoman McCollum led 38 of her colleagues in a letter calling for President Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair to lead the effort to meet the human development needs of people living in Africa. Read the letter to resident Bush and Prime Minister Blair calling for immediate action on African development.

"Millions of Africans are dying from AIDS, hunger, conflict and the consequences of extreme poverty, all of which threaten the stability of governments on the continent. The United States shares a vital strategic and security interest in the stability of African nations. As the wealthiest nation in the world, the U.S. also has the ability and moral obligation to take the lead in
making African development a priority," said McCollum.
