Congressman Jeff Van Drew Supports Little Egg Harbor Township's Request To Defer FEMA'S Hurricane Sandy Repayment

Statement

Date: Feb. 19, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Van Drew announced his support of Little Egg Harbor's request for a repayment deferral for FEMA funds dispersed to help with recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

"I stand with Little Egg Harbor Township against the onerous request of FEMA to repay funds that would place an unnecessary burden on a town that still has not fully recovered from Sandy," said Congressman Van Drew. "I plan to help in any way that I can to help rectify this situation."

Background: The town of Little Egg Harbor Township was decimated by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. FEMA dispersed $4.2million dollars to help with Hurricane Sandy relief under the Community Disaster Loan program. Little Egg Harbor is being asked to pay back the loan in full with accrued interest, by April 2023.
