Congressman Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), the U.S. House Assistant Speaker, is urging New Mexicans to participate in the 2020 U.S. Census - a critically important count that will have an impact on New Mexico for decades.
The 2020 U.S. Census will determine the allocation of more than $800 billion in federal funds and political representation for the next decade. According to the New Mexico Statewide Complete Count Commission, an undercount of 1 percent would result in a $780 million dollar loss in federal funding for New Mexico. Households in New Mexico should receive an invitation to participate in the Census by April 1. Residents can respond online, by phone, or by mail.
As you're planning your coverage of the Census, Congressman Luján filmed a PSA that is available for use to raise awareness of the upcoming Census deadline.
