Dear Mr. Hantman:
The Committee on Finance (Committee) has jurisdiction over the Medicare and Medicaid programs, among other matters. Accordingly, the Committee is responsible to the more than 80 million Americans who receive health care coverage under those programs, including payment for drugs and medical devices. As Chairman of the Committee, I am greatly concerned by a special report published in the December 2005 issue of Bloomberg Markets, entitled, "Big Pharma's Shameful Secret" (Bloomberg Report).
The purpose of this letter is to request that SFBC International cooperate with the Committee's review of matters related to the Bloomberg Report and subsequent related articles published by Bloomberg. As Chairman of the Committee, I request that you meet with my Committee staff to discuss reported allegations related to SFBC International by no later than December 16, 2005. In cooperating with the Committee's review, no documents, records, data or information related to these matters shall be destroyed, modified, removed or otherwise made inaccessible to the Committee.
Thank you in advance for providing the name and contact information, including an email address, for a person who will act as the point of contact for SFBC International during the Committee's review. Please forward this information to the
Committee by no later than 5:30 p.m. on Monday, November 21, 2005.
Sincerely,
Charles E. Grassley
Chairman
