Statement on "No" Vote for Today's Bill Including Funding for Trump Wall, Few Restrictions on Anti-Immigrant Agenda

Press Release

Date: Dec. 17, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, released the following statement about his "no" vote on the Fiscal Year 2020 Homeland Security Minibus:

"Not another dime for Trump's wretched wall, no blank check for his anti-immigrant agenda. This bill hands over more taxpayer dollars for Trump's wall and lacks effective restraints on a lawless President who has trampled on the borders of our Constitution. Call it a "wall' or a "fence,' build it with steel, not concrete, but it is still a colossal waste of taxpayers' money for an imaginary crisis in conflict with fundamental American values. Trump will again be able to seize funds meant for constructive purposes to build his destructive wall--and to punish the most vulnerable through his anti-immigrant, un-American agenda."
