DURBIN SAYS SENATE VOTE CLEARLY CALLS FOR CHANGE IN IRAQ POLICY
U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today issued the following statement after the Senate voted to change the Bush Administration's strategy on Iraq:
"Today's vote on Iraq was significant because Democrats and Republicans joined together to call for change. The message to the Administration is clear: more of the same is unacceptable."
"We need leadership and a new direction. The Bush Administration does not appear to have a clear plan or strategy for how we will succeed in Iraq. This amendment though watered down by the Republicans calls for a clear break from current policy and requires timely reports from the President to the American people."
"We owe our troops, their families, and all Americans nothing less than a clear path to success in Iraq rather than a long-term, open-ended commitment."
