Brown: We Won't Stop Fighting On Behalf of Transgender Service Members

Statement

Date: Dec. 17, 2019
Location: Washington D.C.

Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04) released the following statement celebrating the inclusion of his amendment in the final FY20 National Defense Authorization Act requiring the Department of Defense to report on individuals affected by President Trump's transgender service ban, and quantify the policy's costs:

"President Trump's decision to ban transgender Americans from serving in the military, is as wrong today as the day he impulsively tweeted it out. This year's National Defense Authorization Act includes my amendment that will require the Department of Defense to report on the number of ready and willing transgender Americans we turn away because of this exclusionary policy. This is a positive step forward but by no means the end of this fight for equality. We cannot stop until every American can openly serve and sacrifice for their country."
