Spirit of Nation's Veterans an Inspiration to Those Currently Serving
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn.-3) issued the following statement in honor of Veterans' Day, which will be observed tomorrow November 11:
"Today we honor those who have served and sacrificed for this country - men and women who gave of themselves for the freedom and opportunity of others. As I learned from my father, an army veteran, war's legacy extends far beyond the years during which the conflict took place - it is an experience that lasts a lifetime and touches countless generations.
"Particularly at a time when our nation faces serious challenges across the world, with thousands of our young men and women in uniform protecting us overseas, we look to the indomitable spirit of our nation's veterans for inspiration and for strength. And as we celebrate Veterans' Day this year, our thoughts and prayers are with each Connecticut family that has lost a loved one serving in Iraq or Afghanistan or has a family member currently serving. As we learned from the 439th Quartermaster Company, these are the veterans of tomorrow, and we must honor them.
"Today we also remind ourselves of how very fortunate we are as Americans. We will never forget the sacrifice our nation's veterans have made. We thank them for standing up and serving their nation."
