Joyce Statement On H.R. 19

Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13) released the following statement on H.R. 19, the Lower Costs, More Cures Act of 2019.

"As a physician serving in Congress, I am working to improve Americans' access to quality and affordable health care. Lowering prescription drug costs is a bipartisan priority, and Speaker Pelosi's politically-driven H.R. 3 is not the answer. This innovation-stifling legislation would prevent 100 new cures from reaching American patients and lacks the support needed to become law.

"Instead of partisan posturing on drug pricing, House Democrats should pass H.R. 19, a package of more than 40 measures that already have bipartisan support. From capping the cost of insulin for seniors at $50 per month and making drug prices more affordable while protecting innovation, the Lower Costs, More Cures Act of 2019 is a realistic solution that could deliver results for the American people.

"As an original co-sponsor of H.R. 19, I encourage House Democrats to drop their political grandstanding and support these bipartisan solutions that will help patients."

Congressman Joyce is an original co-sponsor of H.R. 19, which will lower out-of-pocket spending, protect access to new medicines and cures, strengthen transparency and accountability, and champion competition. For example, it will require insurance companies to cap the cost of insulin for seniors in Medicare Part D at $50 a month after they've paid their deductible, and create a new out-of-pocket maximum on prescription drugs costs for Medicare beneficiaries in Part D. As opposed to H.R. 3, all of the 40+ provisions in H.R. 19 already have bipartisan support.
