Hospital Road Bridge Project Moves Forward

Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1) applauded the conclusion of the preliminary design phase and the commencement of the final design phase for the rebuilding of Hospital Road Bridge, which received over $20 million in federal funding.

This federal funding was made available through the passage into law of Congressman Zeldin's Safe Bridges Act, which reversed changes to federal law to once again make state and local overpasses and bridges, such as Hospital Road Bridge, eligible for federal funding through the National Highway Performance Program (NHPP).

"Hospital Road Bridge is a critical artery for local residents and a vital lifeline for law enforcement and first responders traveling to Long Island Community Hospital and the North Patchogue First Department," said Congressman Zeldin. "Right now, the state of the bridge, which has been deemed "functionally obsolete', poses a threat to all those who cross, but the continued progress on this project, which will now include the complete rebuilding of the bridge, is good news for all those who rely on its functionality. The integrity of our roads, overpasses and bridges is not only critical for residents' safety, but a linchpin of job creation and overall economic growth in our communities. Driving Long Islanders' hard earned federal tax dollars back into our streets and providing states and localities the flexibility to apply these resources efficiently is the key to bolstering our infrastructure and revitalizing our region."
