NDAA Conference Report Includes Nearly $420 Million in Relief for Nebraska's Defense Equities

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and chairman of the Subcommittee on Strategic Forces, released the following statement after the release of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) conference report. As a conferee, Senator Fischer worked to help ensure nearly $420 million in relief for Nebraska's defense equities was included in the conference agreement:

"Nebraska's military installations were severely damaged from this year's extreme weather. The nearly $420 million for Offutt Air Force Base and Camp Ashland I worked to include in the NDAA conference report is absolutely critical for our military and our state. This relief will help cover much-needed repairs and speed up recovery, allowing our men and women in uniform to continue fulfilling their vital missions."

The NDAA authorizes defense spending and sets the policy and priorities for our military. Included in the conference report, which precedes a final House and Senate vote, is $375 million to repair Offutt Air Force Base and replace damaged RC-135 mission equipment, as well as $43.5 million for the rebuilding of the Nebraska National Guard's Camp Ashland training facility.

As the bill becomes more publicly available, Senator Fischer's office will provide more information on other provisions in the conference report.
