Carter Introduces Survivors Victory Day Resolution

Statement

Representative John Carter (TX-31) reintroduced today a resolution recognizing November 19th as Survivors Victory Day in honor of constituent, Jessica Huber, from Leander, Texas.

At just 19 months old, Jessica Huber was nearly killed after her mother ran a red light near Manor and wrecked into a truck going 70 miles per hour. Jessica's mother was under the influence of narcotics and alcohol at the time, and Jessica was not strapped into her car seat. Jessica's father, Mark Huber, recalls that horrific day and remembers that his daughter's doctors did not think that she would survive. Despite her significant injuries, Jessica is a thriving young adult now.

"Jessica came to visit me again this summer, and she truly is a light to everyone she meets. Jessica's story is a story about miracles. She has endured so much, but she has continually overcome every challenge set before her. Her story is also a reminder of the consequences of drunk driving. My resolution serves as a day to honor those victims that are first and foremost, survivors," said Rep. Carter.

Jessica's father, Mark said, "I have a miracle. Jessica is a miracle and I want others to know they don't have to give up hope. I have had my struggles since her accident. I ran out of assistance. I lost my job. But I never gave up and I want to find a way to help people succeed. One minute of silence a year would remind people that there are victims out there who still need our help and support."
