Letter to the Hon. Richard Shelby, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, the Hon. Patrick Leahy, Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, the Hon. Nita Lowey, Chairwoman, and the Hon. Kay Granger, Ranking Member - Duckworth, Collins Push for Federal Assistance for Communities Struggling with Stranded Nuclear Waste

Letter

Date: Nov. 14, 2019
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Energy

As you reconcile the House and Senate Commerce, Justice and Science Appropriations bills, we urge you to include robust funding for communities facing nuclear power plant closures through the Economic Development Administration. We support the language included in House Report 116-101 regarding nuclear power plant closures and encourage inclusion of this language in the final conference report.

Strong funding is necessary to support public works investments and economic diversification initiatives in communities across the country. The scale of the challenged facing these communities, in addition to further expected nuclear power plant closures, creates a need for robust economic adjustment assistance funding.

Thank you in advance for your consideration of our request.
