"Another unqualified GOP judicial nominee has advanced out of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Lawrence VanDyke--like so many other GOP noms--was rated "not qualified" by the ABA & was described as "arrogant, lazy, an ideologue, and lacking in knowledge of the day-to-day practice.""

"Mr. VanDyke has minimal ties to Nevada as well. He did not grow up or go to school in NV, he ran for office in Montana, and he only became an active member of the NV Bar in 2017. There are many longtime members of the Nevada legal community better suited to fill this Nevada seat."

"Mr. VanDyke has not been shy about his backwards views on LGBTQ rights either. In a 2004 column, he wrote there is "ample reason for concern that same-sex marriage will hurt families, and consequently children and society." He is entirely unfit for a lifetime federal judgeship."
