Delgado joins grand opening of STRIDE health & recreation education center for Wounded Warriors
Statement
This evening, Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) joined elected officials and members of the community for the grand opening of the STRIDE Health & Recreation Education (SHARE) center on Veterans Day. SHARE is an adaptive sports and fitness community center for wounded warriors, individuals with disabilities, and young people serving Rensselaer County. The center has new features including a wounded warrior and family lounge, a multimedia conference room for training STRIDE instructors, and a collaborative space for partnerships with other adaptive sports organizations.
I'm honored to join in the opening of the STRIDE Health and Recreation Education (SHARE) center. The SHARE center will serve our wounded warriors, those with disabilities, and young people. With new adaptive facilities, SHARE will allow more folks to access the joy of sports and camaraderie with their fellow veterans and allow our community to better serve those who have served our nation by treating both their visible and invisible scars." Delgado continued, "On Veterans Day, we are reminded of the importance of doing right by the service of others -- and we should reflect on the values our veterans put their lives on the line to protect and defend. This means honoring the service of our veterans with our own service here at home -- and that is exactly what this new space will do. I'm looking forward to seeing all the good STRIDE and its community volunteers will create in our region."
Rep. Delgado has made assisting the more than 40,000 veterans in NY-19 a focus of his work in Congress, guided by conversations with his Veterans Advisory Committee. During this in-district workweek, Rep. Delgado is visiting with veterans and the organizations that serve them. On Friday, Rep. Delgado hosted a panel in Brunswick with elected officials, community leaders, veteran support organizations, and non-profits focused on veterans' transition to civilian life.
