Delgado honors veterans at Sullivan County Veterans Day service
Statement
This morning, Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) joined in the Veterans Day service with the Tusten-Highland Lumberland VFW Post and Sylvan-Liebla American Legion honoring veterans in Sullivan County.
At the event, Delgado said, "the service of our veterans is entirely selfless, the kind where brave men and women of our military literally put their lives on the line in defense of our country and to uphold our values - values like liberty, justice for all, equality, fairness and democracy -- this is what makes the service of our veterans, and all of our men and women in the military so special.
"This profound commitment to our values as a nation must always be honored and cherished. That means never forgetting the values that inspired such bravery and courage in the first place--the values that gave birth to our founding documents and with them, our union, as a nation. True to our Constitution, we make our mission the perfection of our union, to overcome our differences, find strength in our diversity, and while doing so we hold true to the word of our Declaration of Independence that we are all created equal. This is our unity of purpose as Americans, and it is because of this unity of purpose that our veterans put their lives on the line." Delgado continued, "our veterans know that our cause of democracy, of government for the people, by the people, is worth fighting for. And when they come home we must honor their service and be there for them with a grateful heart, a sober mind, and a warm hand."
Rep. Delgado has made assisting the more than 40,000 veterans in NY-19 a focus of his work in Congress, guided by conversations with his Veterans Advisory Committee. During this in-district workweek, Rep. Delgado is visiting with veterans and the organizations that serve them. On Friday, Rep. Delgado hosted a panel with elected officials, community leaders, veteran support organizations, and non-profits focused on veterans' transition to civilian life.
