Delgado discusses veterans support programs at Mental Health America of Dutchess County

Rep. Antonio Delgado (NY-19) continued his veteran focused in-district work week by visiting Mental Health America of Dutchess County to tour its facilities and learn more about their work to support veterans' mental health through their Vet2Vet Program. During his visit, Rep. Delgado met with Adam Roche, the Vet2Vet Program Manager, who discussed the different support programs offered to veterans, which includes support groups, resource referrals for useful services, and short-term care management, among other things.

"Our veterans have sacrificed so much for our country, and it is our responsibility as a nation to do everything we can to provide the necessary resources for their well-being," Delgado said. "Mental health should not be treated differently than physical health. The transition to civilian life can present a unique set of challenges, and veterans know these challenges better than anyone -- that's why the Vet2Vet Program, which is created for veterans, by veterans, is so effective in what they do. This week, I am meeting with veterans all across the region to better understand the challenges they face in hopes of better shaping my work in Washington, D.C. I thank the advocates at Mental Health America of Dutchess County for taking the time to show me the critical work they're doing to support our upstate veterans; I will continue to support and advocate for their work at the federal level."

There are more than 40,000 veterans living in New York's 19th Congressional District And Rep. Delgado is spending the week visiting with those individuals and the organizations that serve them. Earlier today, Rep. Delgado visited the Ulster County Veteran Services Agency, and on Friday, November 8 will host a panel with elected officials, community leaders, veteran support organizations, and non-profits focused on veterans' reintegration to civilian life.
