Delgado kicks off veteran-focused week in NY-19 with Ulster County Veteran Services Agency meeting

Today, Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) kicked off his in-district workweek focused on upstate veterans by meeting with the Ulster County Veteran Services Agency in Kingston. The Ulster County Veteran Services Agency provides support to local veterans and their families in obtaining medical, disability, pension, and education benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The agency also assists local veterans with issues such as homelessness, veterans burials, tax exemptions, employment, and transportation.

"I'm thankful to the Ulster County Veteran Services Agency for the assistance they've provided to veterans in the region including helping many access their benefits and the resources needed to thrive at home." Delgado continued, "Hearing from folks at Veteran Services Agencies, and other Veteran Service Organizations, is why I continue to push for my Improving Benefits for Underserved Veterans Act, which would allow Congress and the VA to foresee trends and needs in veterans' benefits and better understand how to serve them in the future. I thank the folks at the Ulster County Veteran Services Agency for their time today and look forward to continuing to work together to ensure that our veterans our supported in every way possible.

In August, Rep. Delgado introduced H.R. 4165: Improving Benefits for Underserved Veterans Act which would direct the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to publish a report of benefits sought by our veterans, disaggregated by sex and minority group member status. The purpose of this legislation is to help Congress and the Department of Veterans Affairs better understand what kinds of benefits women and minority group veterans receive from the VA in order to better serve those populations in the future. In June, Rep. Delgado announced the membership of his Veterans Advisory Committee and appointed Malia DuMont as Chairwoman.
