Letter to the Hon. Peter Antonacci, Broward County Supervisor of Elections - Broward delegation asks election supervisor to investigate reports of notices threatening to remove voters from roll

Dear Supervisor Antonacci,

We write in response to troubling reports that Broward County voters have received inaccurate and misleading final notices that threaten to remove them from active voter registration rolls and potential cancellation of their voter registration.

As you know, the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 Section 8(d) provides federal protections for registered voters from inappropriate removal from voting rolls. While it appears from public reports that these notices do not immediately threaten the registration of active voters, they have created confusion that risks the full and equal participation of Broward County voters.

In response to these stories, your office's spokesman said, "Whenever you're mailing to a million people, as the state law requires, there's going to be some inaccuracies." While we understand that your office may have erroneously sent address confirmation final notices to some voters, we respectfully request that you determine the cause of those errors, correct them, and issue communications to reaffirm the registration of voters who should not have received them. Without clarification, voters who received the erroneous notifications from your office will be under the assumption that their voter registration is at risk.

With 125 days remaining until Florida's presidential primary you have limited time to issue clarifications to the voters who have properly registered and received final address confirmation notices in error. We hope that you will work expeditiously to do so.
