Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) released the following statement in advance of Rosh Hashanah, which begins Sunday at sundown:

"I am excited to wish Jewish families throughout New York's 7th Congressional District a healthy and happy Rosh Hashanah. As we prepare for great ventures in the New Year, I encourage New Yorkers to reflect on how our Jewish neighbors have shaped New York's culture and contributed so much to our country -- serving as lawyers, doctors, first responders, military members, teachers, and community organizers.

"As families and neighbors come together to celebrate, may all New Yorkers show comfort, kindness and warmth to one another in the spirit of this holiday.

"Shana Tova and Happy Rosh Hashanah!"
