Rep Meeks Issues Statement on Announcement for Guyanese Election

Today, Congressman Gregory W. Meeks, senior member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement:

I join the international community in welcoming President Granger's announcement to set elections for March 2, 2020. A steadfast commitment to the constitution and the rule of law remains in the best interest of all Guyanese people. Democratic norms must always be respected, and I urge all parties to move expeditiously toward elections in adherence to the timeframes established by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).

I look forward to visiting Guyana soon and wish the Guyanese people peace and prosperity in the coming year.
