Proclamation - Veterans Awareness Week
WHEREAS, tens of millions of Americans have served in the Armed Forces of the United States throughout the past century, and hundreds of thousands have given their lives in service to this great nation; and
WHEREAS, the contributions and sacrifices of these brave men and women have been vital in preserving the freedoms and protecting the way of life cherished and enjoyed by all Americans; and
WHEREAS, the advent of the all-volunteer Armed Forces has resulted in a sharp decline in the number of individuals and families with personal connections to the military, decreasing the awareness among young people about the nature and importance of the accomplishments made by our veterans; and
WHEREAS, it is essential for the future leaders of this state and nation to understand the history of military action and the contributions and sacrifices of those who conduct such actions; and
WHEREAS, North Dakotans are encouraged to observe this week with appropriate educational activities designed to inform all citizens, especially our youth, about the important contributions our veterans have made, and continue to make, to this state, this country and the world.
NOW, THEREFORE, as Governor of the State of North Dakota, I do hereby proclaim November 6-12, 2005, VETERANS AWARENESS WEEK in the state of North Dakota.
