Proclamation - Honor a Hero, Be a Hero Month
WHEREAS, a constant supply of blood is necessary for communities to meet the needs of their immediate area; and
WHEREAS, blood must be readily available in the event of a medical crisis or man-made or natural disaster; and
WHEREAS, eligible blood donors can have a significant lifesaving impact with each pint of donated blood helping to save up to three lives; and
WHEREAS, every two seconds someone in America needs blood, and United Blood Services must collect enough blood each day to meet the needs of 74 area hospitals; and
WHEREAS, National Guard and military personnel are loyal blood donors, many of whom are now deployed and unavailable for donations; and
WHEREAS, North Dakotans are encouraged to donate blood throughout the month of November to honor our veterans who have served and those who are currently serving in the Armed Forces.
NOW, THEREFORE, as Governor of the State of North Dakota, I do hereby proclaim November 2005, HONOR A HERO, BE A HERO MONTH in the state of North Dakota.
