Fischer meets with Fogle family of Omaha following adoption of Latvian daughter Lola

Today, U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) met with a family from Omaha who recently adopted their new daughter Lola from Latvia. Fischer and her staff assisted the family for nine months as they worked to navigate the long and complicated international adoption process.

"It has been a long road, but I am so happy to finally see the Fogle family together with their daughter, Lola. My office was honored to help them through what was a complex and difficult international adoption process. After years of waiting, Lola now has a forever family in Omaha with her loving parents, Ben and Liz, and her new brothers, Garrett and Landon," said Senator Fischer.

Omaha family Ben and Liz Fogle and their two sons hosted Lolita Mara, an orphan from Latvia, several times at their house between 2016 and 2018 through a church program. During these stays in Omaha, the Fogle family fell in love with Lola. They knew that they needed her to be forever family, and began the international adoption process. In Latvia, Lola faced extremely poor living conditions and was subject to abuse.

Senator Fischer was initially contacted by the Fogle family in October 2018, when they learned the new Latvian government was planning to significantly restrict intercountry adoption. Senator Fischer and her staff worked closely with the Fogle family in coordination with the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Ambassador to Latvia to finalize adoption through an arduous process. On June 12th, the Latvian orphan court officially matched Lola with the Fogles, and on July 28th the family brought Lola to Omaha.
