McConnell Announces Funding for Youth Homeless Shelter

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced today the Brighton Center in Northern Kentucky was awarded a $200,000 competitive federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) Administration for Children and Families. Brighton Center plans to use this federal funding to provide emergency youth shelter services at its Homeward Bound Shelter in Covington.

Senator McConnell's office contacted HHS in support of his constituents' application and its mission to provide a safe environment for teenage victims of abuse or neglect.

"Brighton Center's inspirational work in Northern Kentucky provides critical resources to young people in crisis, and it was my privilege to support their application for these federal funds," said Senator McConnell. "The Homeward Bound Shelter is helping give young people in Kentucky the opportunity to develop in a safe environment. As Senate Majority, I regularly call national attention to programs like this one to help deliver the tools and resources needed to carry out their mission."

"Our Homeward Bound Shelter has been providing prevention, crisis counseling, residential and non-residential services to youth in Northern Kentucky since 1983 and is accessible 24 hours 7 days a week," said Brighton Center President and CEO Tammy Weidinger. "This $200,000 grant will allow us to continue to assist youth in crisis, reunite youth with their families, strengthen family relationships, and help youth transition to adulthood or safe and stable living arrangements. Youth are empowered to make a difference in their own lives to develop their full potential. We especially wish to thank Senator McConnell for his support and ongoing advocacy for youth in our region."
