Rep. Delgado Holds Roundtable with Kingston Affordable Housing Leaders

Statement

Today, Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) held a roundtable in Kingston focused on affordable housing with leadership and representatives from RUPCO, the Supportive Housing Network of New York, Catholic Charities, and CARES Homeless Management Information Systems. Today's meeting focused on learning more about the resources available to communities in poverty in Ulster County and the role of the federal Low Income Housing Tax Credit in developing affordable housing in the area.

"Today's conversation was an important opportunity to learn more about the work being done at the county and local level to create rental opportunities for low-income households and combat poverty in the area. The federal Low Income Housing Tax Credit is a critical resource for our community, allowing Ulster County to offer housing units at a more affordable price." Delgado continued, "I thank the RUPCO leadership for taking time to discuss solutions to the barriers facing low income communities in Ulster County. These conversations continue to inform my work in Congress to advocate for rural communities."

Today's conversations focused on the Low Income Housing Tax Credit and how it has been used across Kingston. As part of the meeting, RUPCO highlighted The Lace Mill in Kingston, an old lace factory that has been turned into affordable rental units for local artists. The project was made possible in part by Low Income Housing Tax Credits, a federal program that allows states to offer tax credits to support rental projects targeting low-income households. The credits allow developers to offer discounted rents thus expanding access to affordable, accessible housing.
