Westerman Joins AEI to Discuss Fair Care Act

Statement

Today, U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) spoke about the Fair Care Act at an American Enterprise Institute (AEI) event titled, "After Repeal and Replace: the Fair Care Act and the 2020 Campaign Plans." Westerman gave the following remarks:

"Health care consistently polls for most Americans as a top area of concern. It counts for one-fifth of the U.S. economy and a quarter of federal spending, and it's driving our deficit problems with no end in sight.... You can't just paint with a broad brush with a country as big and diverse as ours, because it really causes disruptions.

"The Fair Care Act, or H.R. 1332, has two primary goals: increase the number of people covered and lower the per capita cost of those that are being covered. I address public and private payers, drug prices, provider competition, as well as health care innovation… We've gathered more ideas to put into it, and we're going to expand on the ability for consumers and beneficiaries to choose what health care options work best for them.

"America realizes we can do a better job. People are willing to give some things up to get stability and get a good plan going forward. We'll never get a health care bill that everybody agrees 100 percent on, but I do think we've got a great framework here that we can build on and gain bipartisan support."
