Issue Position: Ensuring a Fair, Living Wage and Affordable Housing

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2019

Mandie believes that everyone who works should earn a living wage - enough to support the individual and their family. With the cost of living escalating so rapidly in New Orleans, Mandie believes that it is critical to raise wages and increase affordable housing options, so that people can continue to call New Orleans home. Mandie strongly supports an increase in the minimum wage in Louisiana. Two-thirds of people who make the minimum wage of $7.25 an hour in Louisiana are women, who already face a huge gap in wages compared to men. Raising the minimum wage across the state, or at least in large cities like New Orleans, would help to address housing affordability and the gender wage gap.
