Delgado Convenes First Meeting of Small Business Advisory Committee

Yesterday, Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) convened the first meeting of the 19th Congressional District Small Business Advisory Committee including representatives from all eleven counties that make up NY-19. The meeting focused on introducing members and discussing the challenges small businesses face across Upstate New York including the need for robust workforce development and apprenticeship programs, access to rural broadband and technology, affordable housing for employees, and the need to invest in infrastructure and public transportation. The Congressman kicked off the meeting with opening remarks and discussion questions for the participants about barriers to success for small businesses.

Representative Delgado began the meeting with introductory remarks about his role on the House Committee on Small Business and work to reach out to small businesses across the district to hear from them about their successes and challenges to running a small business in Upstate. "New York's 19th Congressional District is home to 27,000 small businesses and self-employed owners that serve as the backbone of our Upstate economy. In Washington, I'm proud to serve on the Small Business Committee which has given me a platform to learn more about the challenges facing small businesses and effectively advocate for their needs." Delgado continued, "I thank you all for joining me today to discuss challenges facing small businesses and how I can effectively advocate for small businesses owners across our region."

The group's discussion focused on a number of challenges small business owners and self-employed owners face in Upstate and across the region. Committee members discussed improving workforce development programs and skills training for employees across the district as well as the need for robust apprenticeship programs. Congressman Delgado also heard from owners about the need for rural broadband and technology as well as affordable housing and local infrastructure that supports small businesses employees.

Congressman Antonio Delgado has announced four in-district advisory committees with representatives from all eleven counties in New York's 19th Congressional District. In addition to the Small Business Committee, Rep. Delgado has announced members of the Health Care, Veterans, and Agriculture Advisory Committees. These committees meet with the Congressman quarterly to discuss their priorities.
