Pelosi Honors Our Nation's Veterans
Washington, D.C.- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in honor of Veterans Day:
"This Veterans Day, we come together to honor our greatest, those who have served in our Armed Forces. They are our sons and daughters, husbands and wives, fathers and mothers. They come from country roads and city streets. They served because of a belief in something bigger than themselves - America.
"We owe our veterans much. We are not just the beneficiaries of their bravery. We are the stewards of their sacrifice.
"We would fail our veterans, though, if we offer only words of praise. We must also demonstrate our gratitude in deeds. Democrats have introduced a GI Bill of Rights for the 21st Century, guaranteeing access to education, health care, and the opportunity for good jobs.
"Yes, today is a day of remembrance, of gratitude, and of devotion to America's veterans, but everyday must be a day of providing every veteran with the benefits they have earned protecting our nation. Today, we welcome home a new generation of veterans - our brave young men and women fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. On the battlefields of war, our soldiers pledge to leave no one behind. For all veterans, past, present and future this must out pledge: after our soldiers come home, we leave no veteran behind."
